ESI implemented the North American Bat Acoustic Monitoring Program (NABat) to prepare and implement Species Protection Plans as part of relicensing efforts for Duke Energy’s Catawba-Wateree Reservoir in North and South Carolina through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Services included:

  • Acoustic and Targeted Mist Net Surveys at Stationary Sites: Coordinated with the regional NABat coordinator and staff from Duke Energy to identify stationary sites for acoustic and targeted mist net surveys
  • Mobile Acoustic Transects: Completed two mobile acoustic transects (one in North Carolina and one in South Carolina) in accordance with NABat protocols
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Completed quantitative and qualitative acoustic call analyses and associated reporting. Auto-identification software identified 14 species of bats in both states with qualitative analysis confirming presence of nine species
